In the last few years as the number of people interested in starting their own business has increased so has the number of boutiques across the United States. Boutiques can be found in malls, shopping centers and outlets, offering a chance for customers to find unique merchandise at prices they can afford with superior customer service and quality.

So what does this have to do with opening a boutique? Mostly it’s about defining a destination. The first actual step in opening a boutique is desire. Many of us work a weekly job, full time in and full time out under the direction of someone else. For some people it’s not a lifestyle they prefer, but one that pays the bills. A little research will help you determine what cities near you have such markets and when they are open. Cities like Los Angeles may have consistently open markets while other cities may only have a specific weeklong show. Get on the lists for these shows and attend. While you are at the show take your time to make sure you’ve looked over all the possibilities at that show before you put in orders and begin to acquire your beginning inventory. Think about colors and cuts that you want and order in appropriate quantities. Most manufacturers will require that you buy at least four pieces in any given style per color. Do not buy more than this as it will be too much for an opening shop and keep your options simple the first time out. You want to have a full boutique, but not break the bank on your first shopping trip.

Where to put your boutique?

When deciding where to locate your boutique you will want to consider several things. First of all you will need to decide if you want your boutique in a mall or a shopping center. A mall guarantees a certain amount of traffic because of the location, but also requires that you work within the rules of the mall including hours of operation, pricing and possibly shop design. Waist: You can find the true waist by taking a string or elastic band and tying it (parallel to the floor; snugly but not too tight) around the trunk of the person being measured. It will naturally fall to the narrowest part of the trunk. If you think the true waist area is too high, measure the circumference where you (or the person you’re measuring) normally likes to wear pants or a skirt.

Hips: Measure around the body keeping tape around the largest part of the hips.

A few other tips on measuring:
If you’re rounding off your results (which is advisable), round them up to the nearest quarter-inch or half-centimeter
Try to get someone to take the measurements for you – your posture will be more relaxed and natural. The measurements should be more accurate.
Stand up straight and breathe normally, don’t measure over the top of clothing, wear the bra you feel most comfortable in.

Plus Size Evening Wear

So what is the big event? Do you need a cocktail dress for a company party? Maybe you need a pretty summer dress for a wedding? How about a gorgeous ball gown for a black tie benefit? No matter what the occasion shopping for appropriate evening wear is always a challenge. You can spend all day in every mall within an hour of your house and feel as if you are never going to find the right outfit, dress, or whatever it is you need. Finding the right plus size evening wear can be even more challenging. The selection is more limited and the dresses always seem to be so much less attractive.

I have looked at some of this stuff and wondered what the designers were thinking when they allowed their dresses to be made in such large sizes. I mean everyone knows that a style and or pattern that looks good on a 5??woman who weights 110 pounds is not going to look as good on a woman that wears a much bigger size. Ruffles around the hips and chest are not good things for larger people unless of course they are interested in looking as large as possible.

Every time I go to an event I see an unfortunate soul wearing something that would be terribly trendy on a much smaller woman but does nothing but show the larger woman at a severe disadvantage. I mean we all want to look our best right? Especially when we are at large functions. So why is it that there seems to be such a lack or beautiful plus size evening wear? Not to sound insensitive but it isn’t exactly like the United States is lacking in plus size people. You would think there would be more clothes designed to cater to them.

Depending on their make, purpose, and placement in time, leather jackets have had a variety of styles. The most familiar subculture associated with the leather jacket is that of the ducktails of the 1950s and early 1960s, such as depicted in the movies The Lords of Flatbush and Grease, as well as by “The Fonz?in Happy Days, aired during the early 1970s. These leather jackets, made light and intended for casual wear, were used to convey an image of “toughness?or “coolness?as well to serve as a badge of independence and/or brotherhood among buddies.

Another subculture featuring the leather jacket was that of the bombardiers in the 1940s and early 1950s, but the style was distinctively different, as seen by the sheepskin collar to protect the neck. As a matter of fact, “bomber jackets?were typically interlined all the way through with sheepskin. This kept its wearer warm as well. The leather jackets worn by the police-yet another subculture identified with leather jackets-are also protective, but these are made thicker and heavier with a design to facilitate safety equipment and armor wherever needed, as well as to bring across an intimidating image.

The leather jacket isn’t as popular today as it once had been, but it has left a lasting iconic mark on western civilization with an influence so powerful that the leather jacket holds meaning identified with its earlier symbolism, along with new meaning brought about by changing states-of-mind, such as importance of freedom and a sense of worldliness.

Ultimately, the leather jacket promotes a style that will never lose taste regardless of the changing tides. If anything, the leather jacket will continue to influence the direction in which those tides flow.
