History of Socks

Believe it or not socks have been around since the stone ages. They were very different from socks as we know them today. They were often made of animal skins that were tied around the ankles.

In Ancient Egypt there is evidence of the existence of knitted socks and by the 8th century BC, the Greek poet Hesiod wrote of paloi – socks made of matted animal hair. They were mostly worn by actors in comedic plays.

During the Middle Ages colored cloth tied around the legs and held up with garters were in popular use. Garters were placed over the top of the sock/stocking to prevent them from falling down. They were mostly worn among the more wealthy.

In the 1490′s, breeches and hosiery were one piece. They later became known as tights. They were made of colorful silks, wools and velvet. Each leg was often a different color. At the turn of the fifteenth century knitted hose was being worn in France and Scotland.

In the 1590′s knitting machines were created. This made the use of knitted hose more common. With the wearing of tunics hose had to be made longer.

In the 17th century the use of cotton became popular in the making of socks. Early Americans also used wool and silk. Poorer people wore woolen hose usually tan in color. The rich on the other hand wore fine silk hosiery and more colors.

During the 19th century knitting mills allowed hose to be made in America. As men’s pants became longer stockings became shorter until the term was changed to sock and replaced the term stocking. The word sock is derived from the Latin word “soccus?which means light covering of the foot. Women to date wear stockings, tights, or socks.

How To Prevent And Remove Wrinkles On A Tie

It is easier to prevent wrinkles from occurring on a tie than to remove them. You can follow these simple tips and always have wrinkle-free ties. Roll up the tie loosely while storing it. Do not hang the tie for long periods as this tends to cause a permanent wrinkle in it.

Shopping, Tie, Fashion

It is easier to prevent wrinkles from occurring on a tie than to remove them. You can follow these simple tips and always have wrinkle-free ties.

Roll up the tie loosely while storing it. Do not hang the tie for long periods as this tends to cause a permanent wrinkle in it. To roll a tie, begin by holding the narrow end and then winding up the rest of the tie, with the wide end on the outside. Lay the roll on a flat surface on the coiled side. This will ease out the wrinkles in a few hours, leaving your tie fresh for use again.

Always untangle the tie knot before storing it. If the tie is stored knotted, permanent wrinkles may form. To untie the knot, follow the steps of knot tying in reverse order. Hurriedly untying the knot will mean pulling hard at the tie which can lead to wrinkles.

The tie knot should have the right amount of tightness. Too tight a knot can lead to wrinkles.

Hanging for a few hours will remove the wrinkles that form due to wearing.

You can even roll out a tie in a clean towel and leave it rolled for a day or two. This removes most wrinkles from the tie. After unrolling the tie (from the towel) hang it for a few hours. This combination of rolling and hanging works like a charm with most wrinkles.

You can also lightly iron the tie (without steam) at low temperatures. Hot ironing is not good for ties as it weakens the fabric. Use the appropriate fabric setting for the tie while ironing.

To prevent wrinkles from forming during traveling, loosely roll up the tie and make sure there is enough space in the baggage for the roll, other clothes should not squeeze the roll. If you travel a lot, you should consider investing in a tie case.

For cleaning give the tie to the dry cleaners instead of machine or hand washing the ties. These kinds of washings will put permanent wrinkles on your tie.

Keep a few days space between wearing the same tie. This allows the tie to return to it’s wrinkle-free state.

You can also steam out the wrinkles by hanging the tie in the bathroom during a hot shower, or by holding it over a kettle with steam. You must not allow water to touch the tie though. To dry the tie, roll it up in a clean towel and leave for one day. You will have a wrinkle free tie the next day.

A wrinkled tie never gives out a professional image. Invest in a tie organizer as a storage device and maintain your ties in its wrinkle free environment.

History of neck tie

By , January 17, 2012 2:09 pm

Neck tie has always been an important part of men’s wardrobe.

neck tie tying, instructions neck tie tying, tying neck tie, steps to tying a neck tie

Long time back, neck tie evolved as a direct result of war. In 1660, a regiment from Croatia visited Paris. The soldiers were presented to Louis XIV, a monarch. At that time, the officers of the regiment had worn bright colored fashion handkerchiefs around their neck. These neck cloths which descended from the Roman fascalia worn by orators to warm their vocal chords were soon made sign of royalty as the king made regiment of royal corvettes.

Later, this style crossed to the channel of England and no soon the gentleman found their dressing more decorative with some sort of cloth around their neck. These neck cloths or cravats were worn so that the man could not move his head without turning his whole body. Sometimes these were worn so tight that they stopped sword thrust. Again, neck tie styles knew no bound with scarf’s, tuffs and bows.

Ties became an integral part of a man’s wardrobe and till the time of civil war ties were imported from the continent. In the beginning of 20th century, American neckwear began to rival that of Europe. In 1960′s, however, there was a declination of men wearing ties because of conflict in between tradition and formality of dress. But, in 1970,s the sale of neck tie increased to a great extent.

No other thing in the wardrobe of a man has changed as compared to neck ties. In 1960′s and early 70′s ties grew 5 inches in width and then fat ties came into fashion. The proper width of a neck tie that would never be out of style is 3 ?inches. As long as the proportion of men’s clothing remains true to his body shape, this width will be in proper balance. Many neck ties are cut in width but the section of the tie where knot is made remained thick although.

The relationship of tie knot to the collar of the shirt is considerable and if it is proper then the knot will never be too large so that the collar opens or it is so small that it is lost in the collar.

The cycle continues in dance wear, and it is apparent when you walk into any hip night club or concert: leotards are making a comeback!

The leotard originally peaked during the days of disco and Fonda in the 1970′s. Today, over 30 years later, the one-piece outfit is popping up in fashion magazines, in concerts, and in vintage boutiques. Leotards are making a comeback on the heels of other 70′s and 80′s apparel like leggings and skinny jeans, and the trend is seemingly being embraced by the masses.

The original leotard first appeared in 1859. Named after the creator, a French aerialist, Jules Leotard, it showed up first during a French flying trapeze performance. The first edition of the garment was a hand-knit jersey that covered him from wrist to ankles. In fact, it was more of a unitard than a true leotard. Stories abound about the revealing nature of the garment drawing as many people as the performance itself, which does not venture that far from the truth of today either.

From ballet artists, to showgirls, to lingerie models, leotards went on to become a part of pop culture through the 1960′s and 1970′s. However, as the late 80′s and 90′s passed, leotards were limited to formal ballet performances and rarely showed up in pop music or the night life of major markets once the hair band era moved on. That is all changing now as the first decade of the 21st century marches toward completion.

The one group who don’t have to be told that leotards are making a comeback is superheroes. Many a comic book hero is dressed in standard leotard and cape attire. In fact, it may be argued that Halloween and the affinity of young boys for super heroes is what kept the leotard industry alive through the last decade.

It is true, leotards are making a comeback. Nearly 20 years since hair bands and unitard costumes went the way of the dodo, the leotard look is coming back with performers, dancers, and clubbers alike. The new trend is finding its way into the pop culture consciousness by being simple, sexy, and vintage. Everything in history goes in cycles, including fashion, so it is no surprise the one piece clothing wonder is back. What’s next, moon boots and parachute pants? Stay tuned since the advancement of the leotard can be seen as an announcement that anything can come back as long as pop stars are willing to put them front and center.

So get used to leotards making a comeback. Whether you choose to participate in the vintage movement or not, it is coming. It has been in and been out and back in again since its 19th century trapeze beginnings, which means that leotards are more timeless than most anything in the fashion spectrum.

Leather blazers are really inn this season. When you shop for leather items, make sure you learn about the different types of leather that are available, price etc. Hi-fashion leather blazers are available in 2 button & 3-button styles. Different colors of leather used to make stylish blazers are black, brown, olive green, yellow, red, warm toned caramel, cognac, sienna and chocolate brown.

Types of leather
Leather is any tanned, toughened (yet pliable), dried, and dyed skin of an animal. Thanks to modern dyeing processes, most types of leather can be found in nearly any color. Some leathers, however, are best known for particular colors.

Buckskin: Pliable leather with a smooth finish from wild stag (deer, elk or antelope).

Chamois: Leather originally made from the Alpine chamois, a goat-like animal. Nowadays, it’s culled from sheepskin. Chamois is well regarded for its supreme softness, absorbency and light tan color. It is pronounced SHAM-wa, or parochially, SHAM-ee.

Calfskin: Leather from young cows. It’s smoother leather, but it can be roughened to create “velour leather,?or embossed with patterns and other textures. It is considered dressy and is usually found in darker shades (blacks and browns).

Cowhide: Leather from full-grown cows that is used for shoes, boots and jackets. Tough and durable, it can have a smooth or rough finish. You’ll find it in all colors, but mostly shades of brown and black.

Lizard skins: Crocodile, alligator and other lizard skins are usually limited to belts, luggage or shoes. They sport a scaly texture and a nice sheen, and can be had in shades of green, grey, red, and brown.

Pigskin: Pigskin is more commonly used in South America. It has little nap (fuzz) and is generally smooth to the touch and tan in color.

Ostrich:”exotic?leather found on belts or shoes. Ostrich resembles a plucked chicken, and as such, has a “goose bump?appearance.

Suede: Suede is created when the reverse side of calfskin is roughened to the point of extreme softness. The resultant nap almost resembles velvet. Suede goods can be had in all major colors.

Price: A good leather blazer can cost you anything between $250 to $1000. Depending on the quality of the leather, the design and the cut.

Sizes: Leather blazers come in different sizes be it long or short. Men usually wear long ones. Whereas women prefer both long and short.

Tips on how to keep the leather Blazers

- Store your leather jacket either flat or on a wide, sturdy, padded hanger to prevent stretch marks. Make sure to never use a plastic cover.

Take care of the stains pronto. When in doubt take the jacket to the dry cleaner.

A lactating mother’s life is not an ordinary case-to-case basis. In fact, it’s one great example of multi-tasking, doing all the things at the same time. Normally, the lactating mother would wash the bottles, do the laundry, cook, and feed the baby. With everything coming off spontaneously, she needs a durable and reliable bra that will come off easily so as to feed the baby instantly.

This is where the nursing bra comes in.

A nursing bra is specifically made for lactating mothers, to provide ease and comfort when feeding the baby. It also gives instant access to the nipples enabling the mother to breastfeed the baby without having to remove her bra.

However, having a nursing bra is not enough to resolve the problem of breastfeeding the baby while doing other things at the same time. You still have to consider the right material that makes nursing bra an effective tool for easier breastfeeding.

Here are some tips:

1. Consider your breast size.

Keep in mind that breast size do change during pregnancy and post-maternity days. And so, the breast size you have before pregnancy may differ when you are into the second trimester of your pregnancy, and may even increase or decrease up to the time when you are already breastfeeding your baby.

And so, the best time for you to buy a nursing bra is during the second up to the last trimester of your pregnancy. This because your breasts are already at its biggest size and that your older bras may no longer fit well.

2. Consider the size.

When choosing a nursing bra, you should take note of its size. It should be large enough to give room for nursing pads. But do not neglect the support that you need as well in a nursing bra.

3. Know its features.

You should go for a nursing bra that has an easy-to-remove hook flaps. Take note that you are not merely wearing a nursing bra just for the heck of it. What counts most is the accessibility that you have on your nursing bra that enables you to feed the baby at once.

4. Consider added features.

If you want to reserve some milk before you get down to doing household chores, then you might want to consider a nursing bra that has an additional feature like a pumping system. Make sure that it offers you a free hands option.

5. Do not go for under-wired nursing bra.

It’s best that you get a nursing bra that is not equipped with under wires. This will only make your breastfeeding tedious. Plus, it might even block the milk ducts giving you a hard time producing milk.

6. Avoid nursing bras that have complete opening.

This kind of nursing bra is not suitable for breastfeeding mothers because it will give you a hard time snatching your breasts back in place.

7. Consider its material.

You should choose a nursing bra that is made of breathable fabric. This means that the cups should allow some air to pass through. Basically, the best material for a nursing bra is cotton, though some manufacturers are considering the use of new kinds of synthetics that offer air passage just the same.

8. Do not buy many nursing bras at the same time.

It is best that you do some testing first. Buy one nursing bra first then observe if it is good enough for your needs. If you liked it, then by all means buy yourself three or more.

Indeed, nursing bra may look just like the other ordinary bra but because of its special function, there are so many things to consider first before buying one. So, it is best to keep these pointers in mind so that you’ll not end up being frustrated. Remember that your baby can sense your emotions, and so, it might frustrate your baby too. With just a mere neglect on the right features of a nursing bra, you end up with so many

Necktie scarves made of beautiful pieces of silk add a touch of glamour to any dress. They are also fit for casual and semi-formal occasions, and you may try them on formal occasions with caution. Given the range of colors and fabrics, a scarf can be an often used component of your regular dress, though use in moderation would only increase its impact on regular interactions.

A scarf traditionally was worn by women as a sign of modesty, and was incorporated as a dress code in some religions. It had an effect of adding an aura and grace around the wearer’s face. Today a scarf is not limited to religious or pious uses. It is as much of a fashion statement as a necktie is.

The various ways of tying a scarf are ?

1. Put the scarf down and fold it along the diagonal to make a triangle. Go on folding the scarf to form a 2-inch band. Wrap it around like a tie and form a loose knot. This is the simplest way to tie a scarf. The knot can be kept in the middle or on the sides depending on the type of blouse or top.
2. An ascot look can be achieved as follows. Spread the scarf upside down and pull it upwards holding it from the center. Now make a small knot, and flip both the ends to keep the knot underneath. Wrap the scarf around and let it fall in the front from the base of your neck.
3. A very large piece of scarf can be work like a shawl extending from shoulder to the hips. To begin, fold the scarf into a triangle shape. Wear it on one shoulder and let the end hang around the torso. Take both the ends and tie them on the opposite hip.
4. A simple and easy way to tie a scarf is to first fold it into a triangle shape, and wrapping it around to let the ends fall on the front. Tie them in a simple knot.

It only make sense that an article of clothing that clings to the body and leaves little the imagination would have an etiquette with it. Knowing when it is and is not okay to wear a leotard can mean a lot when it comes to your social standing and self-worth. Wear it at the wrong time and you can be ostracized, but wear it at the right time and you will be hailed as a fashion guru. So how do you know when it is okay to wear a leotard? There are some simple rules you can follow.

First in leotard etiquette is that you can wear a leotard if you are appearing on stage. If you are dancing, in a ballet, part of an opera, or doing performance art, you can wear a leotard and you will be fine. If you are a rock star, you can wear a leotard in only a couple of situations: if you are a woman or if you are an 80′s hair band lead man (see Poison, Twisted Sister, or Abba). A basic rule of thumb, though, is that if you are on stage performing, you can get away with a leotard.

Secondly, when it comes to leotard etiquette, keep in mind that a leotard is never okay if you are severely overweight or obese. When little is left to the imagination, you can end up painting a picture nobody wants. If you are a man, this goes double as you are put on display at a level that is beyond description. In fact, when the leotard actually debuted in the 19th century on a French trapeze artist, it is said that many came to see the outfit and what it displayed more than the act itself.

Thirdly, leotards are okay if you are a super hero or playing one for Halloween. Superman, Batman, and many other comic book superheroes made the leotard okay. Its sleek tight fit make for a great outfit when fighting crime. No extra fabric to get snagged and nothing to resist wind as you fly or run at the speed of light. If you are going the super hero route, however; you must make sure you wear proper boots and cape to complete the ensemble. Also, superhero leotards should always be worn with bikini briefs over the top. Heroes are modest.

When it comes to leotard etiquette, you have to ask yourself if you should be wearing one. As a piece of clothing that stands out and leaves little to the imagination, you should think long and hard about what you are putting on if the option of a leotard comes up. If you are performing dance, performance art, or hair band music then you are probably okay. Also, if you are a super hero or just trying to play one for a costume party or Halloween, again, you should be okay wearing a leotard. If, though, you are more than a little overweight or not confidence in what you are displaying, a leotard is not okay. A good rule of thumb for leotard etiquette is when in doubt, wear something else or something over it.

Plus Size Jeans ?Fashionable Attires

Plus Size Jeans

I never really see that many pairs of plus size jeans out there when I am shopping. However I see women wearing plus size jeans. I have to say this has always confused me and made me wonder where these people shop. I mean I see the small plus size sections in the department stores but they aren’t exactly over run with plus size jeans; to be honest al lot of the stuff I see in those sections is spandex, as stereotypical as that sounds. Actually I believe most of the plus size jeans I have seen are spandex.

The plus size jeans I seen on women around the city are for the most part fairly trendy, which is more than I can say for a lot of the plus size clothing I see floating around out there and this aroused my curiosity even more. Do to this curiosity about the location of these plus size jean sources, I looked for some on the internet and it appears there are actually a lot of resources there. However I have always been a little skeptical abut ordering jeans and clothing over the internet. It makes me nervous to order something without knowing what it is going to look like when it is on. I know you can return most of these items but with the mail, and the shipping, and the refunds, it just seems like more of a hassle than it is worth. However maybe this is a huge resource I have been missing out on.

Maybe a lot of this shopping that has been going on in the plus size jean market is happening online; I sure don’t see the stores in the mall. However I will admit it is not something I have looked into extensively but have only noticed in passing, there is a good possibility I am failing to notice the true source of the industry.

How many kinds of clothing people are!

Even in this modern age, most societies still delineate among social classes through clothing. Unlike the days of the Roman Empire when only high-ranking government officials could wear mauve, there are no longer laws dictating what kinds of clothing people can wear. Social delineation through clothing is more discreet though still prevalent. For example, because of the high prices of designer clothes and accessories, only the well to do can afford to wear them.

True Religion Jeans
Of course, clothing still shows very clearly what the occupation of a certain individual is. People working in the medical profession wear certain garb that set them apart from people working as firemen, police officers or soldiers, for example. Pastors, priests and other members of religious order also wear distinct uniforms, as do some students in formal schools.

Dsquared Jeans
More interestingly, clothing is also used to express marital status and sexuality. Some married women stay away from very revealing outfits. Though this is not a hard and fast rule in the Western world, it certainly applies to married Indian women who wear special hair accessories to indicate they are married (just as the rest of world wear wedding rings). As a general rule, single people looking for partners wear more revealing outfit to signify their intent to attract a potential partner.

Narciso Rodriguez was born in New Jersey in 1961 to Cuban parents. He studied at Parsons School of Design in New York, and upon graduation worked for designers such as Anne Klein, TSE, and Calvin Klein. His parents were not overly happy that Narciso choose fashion as his career. They would have much rather seen him in something more serious such as architecture.

Whether on the runway or on the red carpet, designer Narciso Rodriguez is in demand. He began is designer career in 1985 as a design assistant for fashion legend Anne Klein. Narciso has a gift for fitting a dress so that it is flattering to the shape of the woman’s body. “It’s so fantastic,” Narciso says, “to create a frame for a woman’s personality and her true beauty.”

While working at Calvin Klein Narciso and Carolyn Bessette [later to become Carolyn Kennedy] became best friends. It was Carolyn Bessette Kennedy’s wedding dress design that brought Narciso front and center stage in the design world. Narciso’s wedding dress design for Carolyn was the buzz around the world. On September 21, 1996, Carolyn Bessette Kennedy stepped out of church on the arm of John F. Kennedy Jr. Women went gaga, literally drooling over Carolyn Bessette Kennedy’s wedding dress.

Carolyn’s wedding dress was made from pure white silk. This simple dress was combined dress elegance, classiness, and sexiness into one knockout package. Woman began to realize a wedding dress could in fact look sexy. This was a whole new concept, never heard of before. For years most women had landed up looking like an overstuffed pilsbury dough boy on their wedding day. Narciso had accomplished in Carolyn’s wedding gown what women thought to be impossible. She had been transformed into this bewitching sexy princess. That look was created by one of her best friends, Narciso Rodriguez. It was Carolyn’s wedding dress that made Narciso’s a household name.

Once word got out who had designed the dress, Narciso was in demand by every major designer in the world. A dream came true when Narciso joined the house of LMVH. The draw back to this career move was that Narciso spent his life living out of a suitcase with very little time to spend with family and friends which he valued and missed dearly.
Narciso pressed on encouraged by the idea that he had finally “made it.” However, working for a large company can often stifle ones own independent design ideas, and it wasn’t long before Narciso discovered he no longer loved his work.
The turning point in his life was when Carolyn Bessette Kennedy was was killed in a plane accident. Narciso had lost one of his dearest and best friends and for him this was a reality check and a wake up call.. Life without friends, family and the love of his work didn’t seem like such a great opportunity anymore. Narciso left LVMH and came home realizing what he needed was the freedom of his own design collection.
Narciso was able to focus on his own line of clothing creating the perfect look for woman. Rather than designing dresses for matchsticks, Narciso’s designs accentuated the curves and bustline of the woman, creating what was called a real woman design. Narciso Latin background came through in his designs with each having a hint of Latin flare. Narciso said Latino women had figures and were proud of that fact so they were perfect for where he wanted to go with his designs.
Narciso talents as a designer were so good, he was even able to make the petite woman look voluptuous. Sarah Jessica Parker, Sheryl Crow and Salma Hayek all wore exquisite gowns designed by Narciso. Not one of these celebs was 6 feet tall, yet the fit of these gowns was to die for.
In the spring of 1998 Narciso debuted his ready to wear signature collection in Milan. It made it into virtually every major fashion magazine. Rodriguez’s American experience and Latin roots, combined with his flair for European tradition of fine design, are all part of his great success. In 1997 Narciso won Best New Designer from the VH1 Fashion Awards, and was awarded Hispanic Designer of the Year. In 1998 he won the CFDA Perry Ellis Award, In the past these honors have gone to designers such as Oscar de la Renta and Carolina Herrera. In the past two years Rodriguez has been with the CFDA Awards: In both 2002 and 2003 he won the Womenswear Designer of the Year.

In a more recent issue of O Magazine Oprah Winfrey stands proudly wearing a golden dress designed by non other than Narciso. Now believe it or not this dress just isn’t gold in color, it is made of gold metal that has been pressed to make a dress fabric. The dress can be seein in O Magazine as well as at oprah.com.

Narciso is like a breath of fresh air when it comes to woman’s fashion. He designs for real woman. If you are interested in Narciso Rodrigues and his designs visit his web page at http://www.narcisorodriguez.com/narciso

Male Underwear Packaging Contest Snap That G-String (or Boxer, or Brief, or Short) & Enter Our Underwear Contest

In honor of National Underwear Day, Campus Men offers a Male Underwear Packaging Contest encourage shoppers to enter photos taken via their cell phones of the best and worst (or funniest) underwear packaging.

male modeling, underwear models, underwear packaging, retail packaging, contest

In observance of National Underwear Day on August 9, a male modeling website is encouraging shoppers to submit cellphone snapshots of the best and worst male underwear packaging in the United States. Cell phone and digital photos can be sent via Sprint’s Picturemail service to: CampusMen@pm.sprint.com

The male underwear industry has grown substantially since the days when Calvin Klein billboards stopped traffic in New York’s Time Square. Many small manufacturers now offer underwear that ranges from strictly utilitarian briefs to elaborate undies that rival Michael Jackson’s wardrobe.

Some are pricey and some are cheap and packaging runs the gamut from sexually titilating (obviously aimed at wives and girlfriends who are shopping for their mates) to blue-collar basics (favorites of the white socks and cigars crowd).

Campus Men, a calendar and male modeling resource company that has been making good looking college guys famous since 1990, was amused by the variations it found in male underwear marketing. Photo editors had shopped department stores, closeout bins and dime stores to find the perfect skivvies for Campus Men photo shoots. After seeing such a range of choices, they decided to sponsor a hunt to find the most amusing packaging, as well as packaging that shows the best in marketability.

All snapshots received for the contest will be displayed on the CampusMen.com website at http://www.campusmen.com/model-search/male-modeling/underwear_modeling.html The winner in each category will be announced on National Underwear Day, August 9.
